Apartment Building
Sarah, Romy, and Maguire drag a futon up two flights of stairs into Sarah and Romy's apartment. Cecelia barges in and demands more rent. Sarah points out they just paid rent. Cecelia says that was for October, it's November 1st and November rent is due. Romy and Sarah don't have the money. Cecelia gives them until Friday before she calls Lutz the landlord. Romy asks Sarah if she has any money, and suggests Sarah call her boyfriend Bailey. Sarah admits she hasn't even told him she's not coming home.

Maguire's Apartment
Maguire comes home and finds Joss in his bed. She gives him a story about leaving her window open and her apartment being too cold to sleep in. She's in the mood for sex, but he's tired and turns her down. Joss is OK with it, they had a deal that there'd be no pressure.

Archer Fitzwith's Office
Sarah visits Archer and tells him she's decided to stay in New York and live in her mother's old apartment and work at the bar across the street. Archer is appalled and insists on helping Sarah. He calls his friend Georgia Halloway who needs a Girl Friday.

Romy and Sarah's Apartment
Romy is taking her hair out of rollers when someone knocks at the door, it's J.B. She throws a towel over her hair and opens the door. J.B. asks her out for coffee, but she can't because she has an audition but has ruined her hair. J.B. asks to take a look and pulls the towel off. He tells her can fix it. Romy is in ecstacy as J.B. shampoos her hair. He says he shampoos 30 people a day.

Halloway's
Spencer Halloway tells his mother he refuses to go to a benefit. Sarah arrives as Spencer is on his way out. Sarah thinks she has an interview, actually Georgia Halloway wants to hire her from Archer's recommendation. Mrs. Halloway introduces Sarah to the five small white dogs she'll be looking after, and tells her she is going shopping today.

Record Store
Maguire tells Joss he wants to stop with their casual sex because he's interested in someone and wants to see where it goes. She asks who, but he doesn't tell her.

Karaoke Bar
Maguire is playing pool with Romy who can't stop obsessing over her lustrous hair and the man responsible, J.B. Romy can't get over her intense attraction to J.B. nor can she stop thinking about sex. Sarah arrives at the bar with the five dogs on leashes, in bags and in her arms. Romy is surprised by the new pink suit Sarah is wearing that Mrs. Halloway bought for her.

Outside the bar, Sarah waits for the dogs to take care of business. Maguire joins her and takes some of the leashes. Both of them get tangled up in the leashes. The close moment lead them to kiss.

Romy and Sarah's Apartment
While they are both getting ready for work, Sarah can't stop thinking about her kiss with Maguire, and how wrong it was because she's still with Bailey. Romy can't stop thinking about the money Sarah is making, and plans to turn the phone back on.

Imperial Theatre
Romy and J.B. walk up to the side doors of the "Les Miserables" theatre during intermission. Romy tells J.B. they should talk about the first act when they go in so no one suspects they weren't there. J.B. can't believe they are sneaking into the second half of a show that usually costs $80, when a whole movie costs $10. They casually slip into the theatre.

Record Store
Sarah brings Maguire bagels to apologize about their kiss. She tells him she has a boyfriend, Bailey, back home. Maguire is disappointed and upset because she never said anything about him before.
Karaoke Bar
Joss and Maguire wonder what it would've been like had they gotten together instead of having to date. They agree they are too much alike for it to have worked out.

Imperial Theatre
After "Les Miserables", Romy comes out singing the finale. She thought it was amazing, while J.B. thought it was stupid. He thought it was unrealistic and he didn't like the singing. Romy can't believe he hated it because it is her passion and her career.

Halloway's
Sarah is feeding the dogs when Spencer arrives. He is upset at his mother for R.S.V.P.ing to an invitation for him to a boring museum event. He finally agrees to go, but his mother insists he bring a date. To spite her, he sees Sarah in the kitchen and decides he'll bring her.

Outside Apartment Building
Romy helps Sarah with her brand new red elegant dress by taping the store tags inside the dress at her back, so that she can return it later. Spencer picks her up in a limosuine. He's busy on his cellphone and laptop working. Sarah asks what he does for a living, online trading. Otherwise, he ignores Sarah and tells someone on the phone that he isn't doing anything important.

Bookie
J.B. takes Romy to bet on horse racing, to show her what he does for fun. He hopes to win enough money to get his own cab, and eventually a whole fleet of cabs. He wants to earn enough money to get out of New York where he's lived all his life. Romy doesn't understand because she loves it in New York. Romy points out to him that they aren't working out because they have very little in common. He agrees.

Museum
At the party, two young women come up to Spencer, when Sarah introduces herself to them, he tells them that Sarah is his mother's dog walker. Later, Mrs. Halloway finds Sarah alone, and asks where Spencer is. Sarah tells her that "his battery died", Spencer is at the pay phone. Later still, Spencer finishes talking to someone and tells Sarah he's going to make another phone call. When she turns to walk away, he sees the dress tag at her back and pulls it off. Sarah freaks, and calls him on how he's been acting all night, and calls him a loser. As she's leaving the party, she runs into Archer and tells him she's late for work.

Romy and Sarah's Apartment
Romy sees J.B. shaving in his apartment. He removes his shirt. She hides so he doesn't see her. She moves to the next room to get ready for bed, and he sees her. They both act like they aren't watching each other.

Karaoke Bar
Sarah shows up for work, still in the red dress. Spencer shows up to give her money to pay for the dress, Sarah accepts. Maguire doesn't understand why she went out with a guy in a limo, kissed him, yet still claims to have a boyfriend. Sarah doesn't want to talk about it.

Romy and Sarah's Apartment
After work, Sarah finds a message from Bailey on the answering machine. He's not sure if it's the right number. He wonders if something is going on with Sarah because the only time she's tried to call are times when she knows he is out. He hopes it is the right number and is really concerned about Sarah and asks her to call him back.

Karaoke Bar
The next day, Sarah is by herself at the bar vacuuming the furniture. Archer shows up. He insists the Halloways can provide her with great opportunity, so she doesn't have to work and live in the Village, the same mistakes Sarah's mother made. Sarah tells him she doesn't want him to take care of her, and that he can't make up for the past. Archer tells her she is just like her mother, which isn't always a compliment.

Grocery Store
Romy sees J.B. in the store and exclaims, "You're everywhere!" He offers to leave, when she sees a carton of lactose-free milk in his basket. She has one too! They're both lactose intolerant, they have something in common! Their attraction overcomes them and they kiss passionately.

Halloway's
Mrs. Halloway is dictating errands and calls for Sarah to make. Spencer is in his father's old den cleaning out his father's things. Mrs. Halloway tells Sarah they will be redecorating the den for her, so she can live there and be on call 24 hours a day. They go out to the balcony to see the view over Central Park. Sarah politely turns down Mrs. Halloway's offer, and explains she doesn't want everything handed to her, she came to New York to be free to make mistakes and try new things. Sarah gets on the elevator to leave, and Spencer jumps in. Spencer admires her for being able to say no to his mother. Outside, instead of saying "it was nice to meet you", Sarah tells Spencer "it was interesting". He offers to drive her, she declines. He offers to walk with her, but she wants to walk alone.

Apartment Building
Outside, Cecelia is demanding rent from Romy because it is Friday. Sarah arrives and tells Romy she quit her job. Romy tells Sarah she isn't committing to anything, not a job, rent, or telling Bailey the truth.

Pawn Shop
Sarah hands over her watch. The clerk offers her $150 for it. Sarah hopes for more but decides to take it. The clerk reads the inscription, the watch was from Bailey.

Joss's Apartment
Joss comes home and finds Maguire waiting for her. He gives her the same story about leaving his windowhis apartment being so cold.

Romy and Sarah's Apartment
Sarah gets back with a receipt for rent. She sees J.B. washing Romy's hair in the bathroom. The phone rings and the answering machine picks up. It's Bailey again, he's still not sure it's the right number but he hasn't heard from Sarah so he asks Sarah or whoever is at the number to call him back. Sarah finally picks up the phone. She tries to explain what's been going on but instead she simply tells him that she's decided to stay in New York.
